OWLHK Environmental Education Projects for Schools

Our environmental education projects are designed and prepared by professional team according to Hong Kong’s curriculum, which are suitable to all local primary and secondary schools. Through interactive, engaging and student-initiated education activities, students can enjoy and be more devoted in learning. Meanwhile, most of the activities include field trips, which assure exposure to nature in order to connect students with nature.

Boardgame Environmental Education

1. ‘Law of the Forest’ On-campus Activity
‘Law of the Forest’ is Hong Kong’s first and only board game with the theme of Hong Kong forest ecology and biodiversity. The content mainly focuses on food chain, habitats, native species, and issues on human impacts on ecology and etc. Students can learn about ecological concepts and local biodiversity in an intriguing way.

2. ‘Law of the Forest’ Exploration
With ‘Law of the Forest’ as theme, have a walk in local forest to explore ecology and biodiversity and reflect human impacts on nature.
Format: Interactive talk, board game activity, field trip (mission)

Plant Diversity

3. Plant Neighbors
Learn about basic knowledge of plants under experts’ guidance, and discover our long-ignored plant neighbors!
Format: Interactive talk, field trip (workshop)
Field Site: Garden/park in or near campus

4. Forest Ecologist
Be a forest ecologist! Learn about plants and forests and their importance, and experience the works involved in forest research.
Format: Interactive talk, field trip, tree survey
Field Site: Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve

Urban Ecology

5. Ant Agents
Learn about ants in a brand new way! Students can use baits and ant aspirators to investigate behaviors and habitats of ants, to learns about urban biodiversity.
Format: Interactive talk, field trip (workshop)
Field Site: Garden/park in or near campus
* Only available from April to October.
* Ant aspirators can be lent to students.

Night Safari

6. Visiting Amphibians and Reptiles at Night
Exploring nature in nighttime, learn about different nocturnal animals including amphibians and reptiles in person!
Format: Interactive talk, field trip (night safari)
Field Site: Pokfulam Reservoir / Lau Shui Heung Reservoir / Tai Po Kao Nature Reserve

Wildlife Videography

7. Little Wildlife Director
This activity encourages students to use their creativity together with wildlife clips shot in Hong Kong to create a story, and present the story in form of video and role-play. Through acting as an organism, they can learn about behaviors, relationships and ability to adapt to certain habitat of local species.
Format: Interactive talk, wildlife video screening, ‘Little Wildlife Director’ activity

On-campus Talk

8. Interactive Talk on Ecology
Through interactive and intriguing talk, students can learn about ecology comprehensively. Hong Kong’s situation and examples are used I talks, so that students can relate their daily life to the content of talk and resonate with them.
Format: Interactive talk, Q&A session
Theme: Hong Kong biodiversity, forest ecology or other specific themes
